Ingredients
1loaf day-old Challah Breadcut into 1/2 - 3/4-inch slices
1cuphalf-and-half
3large eggs
2tablespoonshoneywarmed in microwave for 20 seconds
¼teaspoonsalt
¼teaspoonvanilla extract
4tablespoonsbutter
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Whisk together the half-and-half, eggs, honey, salt, and vanilla in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Pour mixture into a shallow bowl or pie pan and set aside.
Dip bread into mixture and allow to soak for 30 seconds on each side. Place on a cooling rack set on a baking sheet and allow to sit for 1 - 2 minutes.
Set a griddle or large frying pan over medium-low heat. Spray surface with cooking spray and then melt 1-2 tablespoons of butter. Place 2 - 4 slices on pan or griddle. Cook about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove from pan and place on rack in oven for 5 minutes (I use a perforated pizza pan for this step as the racks in my oven have wide slats). Repeat with all 8 slices.
Notes
To add some sweetness, serve with maple syrup or cinnamon sugar.
