Beef and Cheese Lasagna

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ tablespoons fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoons dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 14.5-oz cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 24-oz jar Classico Caramelized Onion & Roasted Garlic tomato sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese regular or part-skim
  • 16 oz grated mozzarella cheese regular or part-skim, divided
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 12 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • ¼ cups grated Parmesan

Instructions

For the Lasagna Filling

  • Heat the oil in a large stock pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and saute 3 minutes, until soft. Add, beef and cook 5 to 7 minutes, until browned all over, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Stir in basil, oregano and red pepper flakes.
  • Add diced tomatoes and tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine ricotta, half of the mozzarella, egg, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Layer meat sauce, 3 lasagna noodles, 1/2 of the ricotta mix, sprinkling of mozzarella, sprinkle parmesan, meat sauce, 3 lasagna noodles, remaining ricotta, sprinkle mozzarella, sprinkle parmesan, meat sauce, mozzarella, parmesan
  • Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 more minutes, until top is golden and bubbly. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.
